Ever wondered what year your Rolex watch was made in? Here at Repairs By Post we have compiled a list by year of all the serial numbers of Rolex watches to help you in finding the right year for your watch.
Rolex serial numbers date your watch by using our table of serial numbers and codes which relate to your watch’s year of manufacture.
Where are Rolex serial numbers?
Pre to 2008, you usually have to remove the bracelet (with care) or ask a professional to find the number. The numbers are engraved on to the case at the 6 o’clock position. Rolex by 2005 began engraving the serial number in two positions on the flange (in French ‘rehaut’) between the dial and the watch crystal in addition to the 6′ o’clock case location.
In 2008, Rolex stopped engraving the serial number at the case altogether and began only the flange location. As of 2010, Rolex only engraved the flange and mostly abandoned their conventional numbering sequence in favour of random serial numbers.
Rolex serial numbers have been increased from 7 to 8 digits, and now contain random letters and numbers. i.e RBP1245X
