How to find your Rolex model number

Rolex model or reference numbers can be found on the watch case (They are also listed on the documentation that is provided with the watch). You will have to remove the bracelet/strap to find it. The reference/model number is engraved between the lugs on the 12 o’clock side where the bracelet meets the watch case.

ROLEX Submariner

ROLEX Explorer I and Explorer II

Rolex 6234 in 1955 was called Rolex chronograph, 1956 was labeled as Cosmograph until the 1980’s, by 1965 and with the success of Daytona Beach racing and the records being set there, the chronograph morphed into the Daytona as we know it today.

General vintage Rolex Daytona models can bring in as much as £220,000 but to be considered a “Paul Newman” Daytona, the watch must be a 6239, 6241, 6262, 6263, 6264 or 6265, sub-dials be block markers, and must have crosshairs across the sub-dials.

A rare steel 6264 model sold for more than £800,000. Paul Newman’s own Cosmograph Daytona sold in 2017 to a private collector for around £13,500,000.
