The history of Vertex pocket watches
Claude Octavis Lyons was born in 1885 and started working in the watch trade when he was just 17 years old. He had loved nothing else than solving problems and making things work. He had set up Dreadnought in 1912 with a loan of up to £1,000 from his father-in-law which was paid back within a year. Claude Octavius had based himself in Hatton Garden at the Diamond House for over 50 years.
In 1915 Dreadnought starts to produce watches for the Britsh Military under the brand ATP and then one year later 1916 Vertex Watches Ltd was founded in London at 37 & 38 Hatton Garden. However, in 1940 the factory at Hatton Garden was destroyed by enemy action.
