The history of Fortis watches
Walter Vogt founded the company Vogt & Co. in Grenchen to manufacture watch parts in 1912. The location was chosen as a new railway had opened. He wanted to produce quality watches. In 1926 he launched the first mass-produced an automatic watch, The Harwood Automatic. This watch was so important to the history of the brand that in the 1980s, it was reincarnated.
In the 1940s Fortis launched FORTISSIMO, the first water-resistant watch. Alarms were introduced to the watches in 1954.
As the brand continued to modernise its logo and the brand itself, advertising and celebrity endorsements became more important to the brand.
Throughout the decades, Fortis continues to develop their range. In 2012 the F-43 FLIEGER Chronograph Alarm GMT certified Chronometer, the complex FORTIS calibre F-2012 was produced, the first alarm automatic chronograph.
