The history of Favre Leuba watches
Abraham Favre founded the company in 1782 with his sons Frédéric and Henry-Louis, founded the company ‘A. Favre & Fils’. Abraham had been an independent watchmaker for many years. Henry-August Favre, Abrahams, Frédéric’s son began to travel around the world to build their workshops around the globe. Throughout the 1850’s Favre Leuba won many prestigious awards from around the world. Fritz Favre continued with the family tradition and expanded the brand throughout Europe, America and Asia and then further to India. In 1896 they relocated the company from Le Locle to Geneva.
In 1960 they launched their first divers watch, Water Deep.
In 1962 it developed the Bivouac, the world’s first mechanical wristwatch with Aneroid barometer, which was used by the Swiss National Parachuting Team. Explorers at the time worse the brand, such as Walter Bonatti, Walliser Michel Darbelley and Paul-Emile Victor.
Given the popularity of quartz watches in the 1980s Paul-Emile Victor, the Swiss watchmaking industry suffered, and Favre Leuba was no different. The company was sold outside the family and has since changed hands many times.
In the new millennium, Favre Leuba continues to make beautifully crafted precision watches. The Raider Harpoon diving watch was released in 2016, and the brand continues to win awards.
