The history of Cyma watches
The name has its origins in Latin meaning a shoot and the French meaning summit and was founded in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland. This area of Switzerland is cut off by deep snow for a portion of the year, and so a watchmaking industry slowly developed during the times of isolation. By 1780 there was a watchmaking industry in the Jura Mountains.
Brother Joseph and Theodore Schwob in 1862 founded their own watchmaking company focusing on avant-garde mechanical production techniques. Three decades later the brothers partnered with businessman Frederic Henri Sandoz who had a history in the watchmaking industry.
In the early 20th Century Cyma was producing its extra slim watches for which it won many prizes. By1929, Cyma had the biggest workshop in Europe and employed 2,000 people to assemble 4,000 watches every day.
Although it produced men's watches, by 1930 Cyma was producing ladies watches. In 1943 Cyma unveiled its first automatic watch.
Cyma’s commitment to design and technology continues to this day.
